Temporomandibular Jaw (TMJ) Syndrome Has Many Causes and Symptoms

TMJWhen the structure of the lower jaw is not correctly aligned with the skull, Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Syndrome can result. The misalignment may be caused by spinal or skull subluxations, accident, trauma, postural problems, ill-fitting dental work or even poor nutrition.

Symptoms of TMJ Syndrome:

If you find it difficult to open your mouth wide, notice a clicking sound when you open or close your mouth, or sometimes feel your jaw is locked, you may have TMJ syndrome.

Other symptoms may include headache, hearing loss or tinnitus (ringing in the ears). Some people experience a feeling of fullness in the throat, facial swelling. Shoulder, neck, cheek, dental or jaw pain and/or facial nerve, ear or eye pain are common. Patients may also experience nausea, blurred vision or dizziness.
